Brighton Marathon and Towpath Ten Miles

A hard winter's training for seven Braintree & District Athletic runners, culminated in a trip to the South Coast on Sunday to join almost 8000 other athletes in the annual Brighton Marathon.
On a bright summer-like day, the temperatures exceeded 20 degrees, adding to the exertions of all the runners.
Simon Mennell was first in for the club in 209th position in 3h 17m 47s.
Lee Cousins knocked over three minutes off his PB and bettered last year's time by ten minutes as he finished in 3h 24m 33s in 338th place.
Damien Hartshorne, the 400m specialist, moved up the distance as he improved his best by 40 minutes with a fine 3h 54m.
Paul Miller recorded an excellent 4h 10m while Ryan Askew's time of 4h 15m 8s was a personal best by an amazing 47 minutes.
Running in their first ever marathon, Paula Evans and Sarah Williams completed the course in 5h 1m 33s.
Also running on Sunday, three Braintree athletes took part in the Towpath 10 mile race along the banks of the Thames at Chiswick.
Gavin Allen has another PB as he finished in 3rd place in 57m 24s.
Stuart Ellis (67m 34s) and Stuart Prestney (69m 20s) both put on fine performances for the day.
