Great Bentley Half Marathon

06/02/2011

The Great Bentley Half Marathon took place on Sunday with over 700 competitors.

The 13.1 mile course is very flat and fast, but the strong south-westerly winds made conditions very difficult, although they also brought unusually mild temperatures of around 13 degrees.

Braintree & District Athletic Club had a good field of 14 runners in the event, with great performances all round.

With 8 successive Personal Best runs behind him, Stewart Ellis had another fantastic run, smashing his PB by over nine minutes to complete the course in 1h 25m 51s, giving him 59th place overall.

Simon Mennell was next home in a fine time of 1h 31m 52s.

Lee Cousins knocked 4 minutes off his PB with his time of 1h 33m 48s, with first time half marathoner, Ross Boyer, just 60 seconds behind.

Other results for the Men were: Lee Gardham 1h 37m 20s; Damien Hartshorne 1h 41s; Myles Coulson 1h 43m 40s; Ryan Askew 1h 43m 55s; Paul Miller 1h 44m 07s; Colm Scolard 1h 45m 23s; Trevor Sibley 1h 48m 04s; Joe McEwan 1h 53m 11s.

Well done particularly to Ryan Askew, who also beat his pb by over 18 minutes.

That is 36 minutes improvement in two half marathons for Ryan, each one at Bentley.

Next one 1h 23m?

For the Ladies, Helen Francis finished in 1h 53m 11s and back from a long layoff, Lisa Pohl ran an amazing 2h 8m 27s.
