Braintree and District Athletic Club members enjoyed hussge success at the Chelmsford Indoor Athletics competition. Eight of the clubs Athletes took part, with some of them making their first appearance in the club vest and as a team they banked a superb eight medals and many PBs.

First up was the club's newest member Tom Keen, who despite having only joined 4 weeks ago and having never even attempted some of the events, threw himself into it and walked away with two bronze medals in the high jump and 60m hurdles. He also competed in the 60m sprint and Long Jump placing well in the year 4/5 age group

In the year 4/5 girls category the club had a great turnout and Lois Gordon in her first appearance for the club, set the tone in the first event with a 2.94m long jump claiming a bronze medal, which was followed by Chloe May%u2019s gold medal with a 13.3m in the indoor Javelin. Chloe went on to claim a bronze in the hurdles in her first competitive race in the event and Lois added another bronze medal in the 60m sprint. In the same age group, County Sportshall representative team member Lauren Hooper claimed a superb silver medal in the javelin with Eleanor Thorn narrowing missing the bronze by less than 20cm but still claiming a superb 4th place. Despite Javelin being their best performances of the day, both girls also competed well in the 60m sprint, 60m hurdles and Long Jump. To complete the success in this age group Hannah Smith claimed a brilliant silver medal with a time of 9.70 secs in the 60m sprint, only narrowly missing out on gold.

Our two year six Athletes faced up to the challenge of competing in the year 6/7 age group and in the Long Jump both posted new personal bests. Melissa Gurteen improved her recently set best by a huge 50cm to achieve 3.05m and Courtney Gordon claimed 5th place with her final leap of 3.54m, improving her pb by 15cm. With both going on to place well in the 60m sprint, they look well placed for a successful forthcoming outdoor season in their first year at U13.

With eight medals and a hatful of PBs and most of all, the enthusiasm and enjoyment shown by the club's young Athletes, it was a proud day for the club. Congratulations to everyone who competed.
