About

Braintree & District Athletic Club was formed in 1977, and was originally based in Robswood, off Cressing Road, in Braintree.

In 1990 the club moved its base to the new Athletics track at Tabor High School in Panfield Lane, where it remains to this day.

It is now heavily involved in Track and Field, Road Running, Cross Country and Trail Running.

Thanks to an influx of new youngsters and the development of the endurance section, the club has more than doubled in size from 120 members three years ago to more than 250 by the summer of 2010.

Under the Chair of Claire Rolewicz, Braintree & District Athletic Club has also widened its approach in the wider athletic community through networking and development and also by involvement with the local community, for example through schools, local businesses and Braintree and District Council.

Under our experienced and committed team of coaches, the club’s athletes are flourishing. In the Juniors, Aleasha Kiddle (60m, 100m, 200m, Long Jump), Clarice Parrott (Sprints, Long Jump and Pentathlon), Chloe Cockell (Hammer), Chloe Beckett (1500m), James McLeod (800m) and Richard Pollitt (400m, 800m, 1500m) are particularly successful, while 21 year old Mitchell Jarvis is showing great promise at 100m and 200m.

In the Seniors, Jill Rush has been winning medals on track and on the road, while stalwarts such as Damien Hartshorne, Leighton Green, Gavin Allen and Simon Mennell demonstrate the wide range of events from Sprinting to Jumping and Throwing, right through to Cross Country and Road Running, including Marathon.

The club competes in a number of leagues at Senior and Junior Level, from Essex, to Eastern Region, right through to Southern England, while our top athletes compete up to national level.

New members are welcome to the club, either as beginners or more experienced athletes. Coaching is undertaken on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and athlete’s needs are met individually.

In the past year the club has started to put on Cross Country Events and in March 2010 we hosted a new 5 mile road race for runners of all standards, The Skyline 120 Braintree 5.

The club would not function without its many volunteers, Officials, Coaches, and various officers and supporters, all of whom, make this a thriving club in our community.

With London 2012 fast approaching there is no better time to get involved in the sport of athletics, as a coach, competition official, as a volunteer, or as an athlete. Be part of it!
